Some anxiety disorder symptoms are purely emotional. Rather than changing the way your body feels, these symptoms are more like persistent moods or predictable reactions. They don't necessarily center on fear or anxiety.

Common emotional anxiety disorder symptoms include irritability and constantly feeling "on edge". People suffering anxiety disorder symptoms often seem only one stressful event away from some sort of breakdown.

Physical Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder

Sometimes anxiety disorder symptoms can affect you physically. It goes beyond mood or feelings. Functioning of bodily systems is actually changed.

You may find yourself shaking or trembling. An extremely fast heartbeat is a common symptom. Your racing heart is often accompanied by shortness of breath, a feeling that you can't get enough oxygen.

How To Deal with Anxiety Disorder

If you believe that you are suffering from anxiety disorder, you should see your family doctor. First of all, there may be a physical reason why you were experiencing these symptoms. A visit to your normal doctor is the best place to start.

Once they have ruled out physical causes, your physician may choose to start you on anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications. If these don't make things better, you may be referred to a specialist.

You could also try therapy or counselling to cope with your anxiety disorder. You may be more comfortable with alternative treatment methods or natural remedies.

In Conclusion

Whatever treatment you choose, it's important to try something. Even if your symptoms of anxiety disorder are purely emotional, they still have a very real negative effect on your life. Physical symptoms can be even worse.

Your doctor is able to help you deal with these symptoms and it's important to start right away. Don't allow embarrassment to keep you from talking about it and don't just assume it will go away.

Can grief experienced early in life turn into an anxiety disorder later on?
My father died from cancer when I was two. As I grew up, mom was gently more and more honest about what had happened to him, where he was, and why, etc. I missed him, of course, and was sad, but for the most part accepted it and wasn't really too affected. My mother also remarried when I was five, and my stepdad has been like a father to me. Last year, I started asking a lot of question about my dad, and after a few long talks with my mom, I found myself having a mini-grieving period for a few days. I'm 19 now. During the past three or so years, I've been experiencing anxiety symptoms that seemed to come more or less out of the blue. Though I haven't been officially diagnosed or prescribed anything, I've seen a few therapists about my anxiety, because it had been starting to affect my life more and more, especially after I went to college. My anxiety includes intense fears of being raped (which has led to a strong distrust of any strange men), fear of rejection in a social setting, and a strong urge to take responsibility for anything that goes wrong. I also may have been molested when I was a child, but there is no evidence, I don't remember anything, it was just a suspicion a nurse voiced to my mom when I was in the ER for a bladder infection when I was three. Though some of my behaviors as a child and some medical problems I have now could be explained by being molested when I was young. I'm just asking this because my anxiety seems to have sort of come out of nowhere, I was never like this earlier on in life. A little shy, sure, but not this fearful or mistrustful. Can early traumas express themselves this way later on in life?

Im experiencing some weird symptoms?
Hey guys so this may be a long read, and I know this isn't specifically a medical help site, but I'm a real hypochondriac, and I suffer from anxiety, so if any of you know what this may be, help would be appreciated. Alright im a 16 year old guy about 5'7 or 5'8 and about 180 pounds. so this all started one or two nights ago on tuesday night. I started to get a slight cough and feeling a little hot and drained out, but that was about it so I thought nothing of it. So I went to sleep, and Wednesday morning, I woke up to a sore throat. It only hurt when I swallowed. I started to feel that drained out feeling a little more before I left for school. In second period, that's when things got a little worse. I started feeling weak, dizzy, cold in most of my body, but hot in my head. I felt drained out and I felt like I was going to collapse. I've had similar feelings to this before, but this time it was pretty bad. And I do suffer from anxiety, but some of these didn't really feel like my typical anxiety symptoms. Fresh air wasn't really helping so I went home. I've been feeling pretty bad all day. The weak feeling has pretty much subsided. I was able to eat a bit and walk around. It is now 2:51 am. I'm feeling sick and cannot get sleep. Right now my symptoms include sore throat and right ear when I swallow, headache in top of my head, and an all-around drained-out and generally sick feeling. So thanks for reading guys. I'd like to hear your opinions on what you think this is, and how you think I should get over it. Thanks.

Friends Influence Your Perception of Depression

6 May 2012 at 11:19am  People tend to base the severity of their own depression on how depressed their friends and acquaintances feel.
