Exercise Stress Results and Your Health

There are many reasons why your doctor may have ordered for you to have an exercise stress test, also known as a treadmill stress test or an ECG stress test. For instance, if you are showing symptoms that are suggestive of coronary artery disease (CAD) or if are already at risk of having CAD because of their lifestyle of because of family history, you doctor may have ordered for you to have an Exercise Stress test. An Exercise Stress test may also be ordered if you are experiencing fatigue or shortness of breath, have high blood pressure, or have an irregular heart beats. The test will allow your doctor to evaluate arterial blood flow.

What should I expect during the test?

Exercise StressThere are two ways your doctor might perform the Exercise Stress test. Either by:

exercising on a treadmill or stationary bike if the patient is mobile
administering an intravenous medication (such as dipyridamole, adenosine, or dobutamine) which will accelerate the heart rate if the patient is not mobile

With either way, you will be monitored by cariology equipment like an electrocardiogram (ECG) and a blood pressure machine.

Understanding Treadmill Stress Test Results

An exercise stress test will not by any means detect that you will have a heart attack. It is merely a way of classifying your risk of possibly having a heart attack. With that said, according to the American Heart Association, the reliability of a exercise stress test is only 67%. This means that a stress test may in fact have a false negative or a false positive.

If you got a positive stress test result, it would indicate that you are in a higher risk category for CAD, and you might be a perfect candidate to receive more accurate testing and further evaluation. If nothing else, a positive result might indicate that you are in need of a lifestyle change and you might consider reevaluating your diet and exercise routine.

anyone kept getting negative home tests when late and still be pregnant?
just wondering because i am 5 days late and getting negative tests.. something is wrong with me though.. i don't feel myself. i have been VERYYYYYYYY emotional/moody... Like i don't even recognize myself! I am never like this and its scaring me. I have had no changes in my diet/exercise/stress/etc.. I usually get my period every month on the 12th or 13th. I don't get it. I haven't been late in a year or maybe more. I do get crampy from time to time and headaches.. but the most difference is this moodiness/crying/emotional roller coaster really. where is my period or a positive pregnancy test? if i was pregnant, i'd be 4 weeks along. can some women not get a positive pee test so early??? i used my last test this morning and negative. also, im so bloated! i look like im pregnant!

Blood Pressure drop during exercise?
What does it mean when my blood pressure drops during the later stages of an exercise/stress test? Today I took an exercise stress test as part of a training session. During the initial stages of my test, my blood pressure increased with my heart rate as expected. Around stage 3 of a 6 stage test, my BP started to descrease even though my HR continued to increase. 2 minutes into the test, my HR was 130, BP 185/104. At 4 min, HR 143, BP 205/105. At 6 min, HR 150, BP 186/108, a 19mm systolic drop. They immediately took BP again, HR was 158, BP 186/100. So they stopped the test, saw them glancing at each other and took a real serious tone. I help sell and work on these systems, this was the first time I was ever a test subject for training under the supervision of a qualified trainer. They printed a report which I'm taking to my MD. Is this a big deal? I asked if a test with these results would typically be repeated, the said a thalium echo/stress test would probably be the next step, but I need to discuss this with my MD which I definitely will. Is this a big deal? What can this mean? I'm just wondering what this could be. Tomorrow I'll be making an appointment with my MD. Thanks.
