Social Anxiety Online Forums - How They Alleviate Social Phobia
Put another way, Social Anxiety is the fear and anxiety of being judged and evaluated negatively by other people, leading to feelings of inadequacy, embarrassment, humiliation, and depression. If a person usually becomes anxious in social situations, but seems fine when they are alone, then "social anxiety" may be the problem.
Social anxiety disorder (social phobia) is a much more common problem than past estimates have led us to believe. Millions of people all over the world suffer from this devastating and traumatic problem every day of their lives, either from a specific social phobia or from a more generalized social phobia. In the United States, epidemiological studies have recently pegged social anxiety disorder as the third largest psychological disorder in the country.
A specific social phobia would be the fear of speaking in front of groups, whereas generalized Social Anxiety indicates that the person is anxious, nervous, and uncomfortable in almost all (or the majority of) social situations.
People with social anxiety disorder usually experience significant emotional distress in the following situations:
Common anxiety provoking social situations include:
a) talking with people in authority
b) dating and developing close relationships
c) making a phone call or answering the phone
d) interviewing
e) attending and participating in class
f) speaking with strangers
g) meeting new people
h) eating, drinking, or writing in public
i) using public bathrooms
j) driving
k) shopping
Physical symptoms that may occur during, or in anticipation of, the situation include:
a) rapid heartbeat
b) sweating
c) muscle tension
d) upset stomach
e) trembling
f) shaky voice
g) dry mouth
h) blushing
i) queasiness
j) ticks
k) hyper ventilation
l) difficulty making eye contact.
People with social anxiety disorder may never know that their anxiety is irrational and does not make "head" sense. Nevertheless, "knowing" something is never the same as "believing" and "feeling" something. Thus, in people with Social Anxiety, thoughts and feelings of anxiety persist and show no signs of going away. It's in such cases that On-line forums become handy.

Is this as hard as it gets?
I'm in year 11 moving schools because I was getting bullied beyond compare. I missed the exams at my new school and the work load I am going to have to catch up on is terrifying. I have so many problems at home and in my social life. My "friend" broke me and my boyfriend up, my ex is causing my serious problems. My mother has a new boyfriend, after only breaking up with her alcoholic fiance 3 weeks ago, she still brags about her ex and it annoys me. She put me through hell with him. She always picks men over me, and constantly lies to me. Physically she is there for me, but emotionally, I only know her as the woman who pushed me into this stupid world.
My sister wants me to go live with her in a different state, but I can't. My Dad is dying, my friend has lung cancer at only 29, my friend tried to kill himself. I still have strong feelings for someone and it's been 2 years, they are happy with someone else.
I can't cope with anything anymore. I have social anxiety, depression. My "friends" say they love me, but never want to do anything with me. My immune system is failing and I keep getting sick, it is getting harder for my body to fight off a common cold. Everyone is always picking on me, I try to fit in, doesn't work, I try to stand out and it gets me bullied even more.
My own brother bullies me. It's getting harder and harder for me to stay awake through the day when I want to be awake, but at night when I am tired and want to sleep, I just can't.
The first thing my mum does when she comes home from work is get high. I get shit from "friends" for not drinking or smoking. And other personal things that don't belong on the internet.
I can't cope.

Need advice please (want to quit new job)?
I took on a second job to earn some extra money.
I was basically hired on the spot after a short chat with the boss. It involves a lot of heavy lifting and I am on my feet for most of the day, which is pretty tiring to say the least.
My co-workers think that I am strange/crazy/snobby/stupid/etc. because I don't talk to them much or make stupid mistakes because of my social awkwardness... they think I'm "just shy" but the truth is that I have pretty severe social anxiety, something I have been working on recently, and my first experience with them was listening to them talk shit about our fellow co-workers.
The pathetic thing is that all of these women are at least 25 years older than me.. you'd think they'd have learned by now to have some compassion and stop being so judgemental.. I know I learned that as a child, for f$#% sake.
Anyway, it's not that I am "afraid" to talk to them, though I do get anxious, but I simply have nothing to say, and don't find much value in small talk.
I basically come home and I cry or want to get very drunk to deal with the stress that this job is causing.. I've only been there 2 days! Lol.
My question (finally :D) is, if I've worked there only 2-3 days, do I still need to give notice that I am quitting, or can I just thank her for the opportunity and tell her that the job is not for me..?
Any other job that I hated this much and didn't really need, I'd probably just never go back and perhaps call to let them know that I wouldn't be back.. however, I was referred by a friend that actually happens to like it there, and I don't want to screw it up for him.
Anyone else I've talked to has basically said to just quit since I hate it so much, while others have said to stick it out a little longer and see what happens.
Thanks for any advice you can give :D

Life Coaching By E-Mail?
27 Jan 2011 at 4:40pm Every so often I get an e-mail from somebody asking if I offer Life Coaching via e-mail and every time I respond that, not only do I not offer such a service, but I would highly advise the person against pursuing such an idea. Contrary to what some ‘coaches’ are saying I’m not even sure Life Coaching via e-mail is feasible. An exchange of e-mails without any other contact is about as likely to result in a positive outcome (for the client) as me trying to learn to play the guitar by reading a book on the subject rather than picking one up. A few months ago I got a request for e-mail coaching from a person who was suffering from severe social anxiety. He told me that his social anxiety was so acute he couldn’t face talking to a Life Coach via the phone, let alone visiting one...Read more...
A Glimpse Inside “Obsessed”: An Interview with John Tsilimparis
17 Oct 2009 at 4:07am I’m not one to stay up and watch TV. For one, I have to practice good sleep hygiene so I can preach that message to you guys. But A&E’s documentary series, “Obsessed” piqued my interest because it exposes viewers to the lives of every day folks battling OCD, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, hoarding, and a healthy variety of phobias. The unscripted series educates the public on how one measly obsession can totally mess up a life if the biochemistry isn’t controlled (of course, I already know that). So I wanted to interview the show’s therapist, John Tsilimparis, about the series and about the experience of being watched by millions as he conducted therapy. Question: What is the primary message that you would like viewers to get from the thera...Read more...
